Our Story
A Study Space Built Around People Who Have More to Think About Than Most
Bumi Capital was founded in Singapore with a single conviction: that people in their forties and beyond deserve financial education that meets them where they actually are.

Founded on the Idea That Financial Study Should Fit Your Stage of Life
Bumi Capital was established in Singapore in 2016 by a small group of practitioners who had noticed a consistent gap in continuing education. The financial planning resources available to Singapore residents were often written for young professionals starting out, or for sophisticated investors with professional backgrounds. Very little was designed for the large cohort of working adults in their forties who were thinking seriously — often for the first time — about what the next twenty years of their financial lives would look like.
The name reflects that ambition. "Bumi" draws on a wider regional vocabulary for earth and ground — the idea of building on solid, honest foundations rather than chasing quick outcomes. Capital here means not just money, but the store of knowledge and confidence that accumulates through careful study.
From its early cohorts held at the Phillip Street office, Bumi Capital has grown steadily through word of mouth. Participants return for follow-on courses. They bring adult children. They recommend us to colleagues who have recently received CPF statements that raised more questions than they could answer alone.
We have not tried to scale rapidly or move everything online. The format — small, in-person cohorts with reading materials and weekly discussions — continues to be what our participants find most useful. We keep it that way by design.
Our Mission
"To provide Singapore adults in their forties and beyond with the financial knowledge, structured frameworks, and confidence to approach their household decisions thoughtfully — without pressure, without jargon, and without any expectation that they should have known this already."

Standards & Protocols
How We Maintain the Quality of Each Course
Annual Curriculum Review
Course content is reviewed every year against MAS guidelines, CPF rule changes, and relevant regulatory updates in Singapore. Materials are revised before each new cohort cycle.
Cohort Size Limit
Maximum twelve participants per cohort. This is enforced, not aspirational. It allows the facilitator to address individual circumstances and ensures discussions stay relevant to everyone present.
Data Protection
Participant information is handled in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act. We do not share enrolment data or personal details with third parties.
No Product Referrals
Facilitators do not hold financial advisory licences and do not refer participants to investment products, platforms, or financial services. The boundary between education and advice is maintained deliberately.
Participant Feedback
Every cohort completes an anonymous end-of-course review. Feedback is read and discussed by the facilitation team before the next cohort and informs workbook improvements each cycle.
Professional Conduct
All facilitators observe a written conduct standard — covering objectivity, confidentiality of group discussions, and the duty to refer participants to licensed professionals where the conversation moves beyond education.
What Guides Our Work
Singapore Financial Education That Respects the Learner
Financial study at forty-plus is different from learning at twenty. There is more at stake, more accumulated uncertainty, and often a more specific set of questions — about CPF withdrawal timing, SRS tax treatment, HDB equity in retirement, or how to read the SGX dividend calendar without being misled by yield figures alone. Bumi Capital exists to address these questions with the same seriousness that participants bring to them.
Our courses draw on Singapore's regulatory framework from the start — not as a footnote but as the central frame. When we cover fixed income, we begin with Singapore Savings Bonds. When we address retirement income, we start with CPF LIFE payout structures. The local context is not an addition; it is the whole point.
We believe that financial confidence in later life is built gradually, through documented understanding rather than through decisions taken under pressure. The workbooks, reference materials, and personal planning documents that participants take away from each course are designed to be used — not filed away. They serve as a record of what was studied and as a working tool for the decisions that follow.
